Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on Smt. Sonia Gandhi,
Chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance – the coalition of
political parties that currently make up India’s Central Government
– in New Delhi on Friday 27 April. During their meeting, Mr. Ban called
for high-level participation by India in the upcoming Rio+20 Summit. The two
leaders also discussed UN reform. The Secretary-General thanked Mrs. Gandhi
for India’s continued interest in, and engagement with, the work of the
international organization.
