29 November 2017
Indian support for the Palestinian cause reiterated
As every year, the Indian Council for World Affairs (ICWA) – the Ministry of External Affairs supported think-tank in India, hosted the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in their Seminar Hall at Sapru House in Delhi.
ICWA Director-General welcomed the full house of diplomats, research scholars and media persons who had gathered for the observance.
Speaking on behalf of the UN, Mr. Yuri Afanasiev, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, noted that the values of the UN Charter included non-aggression, non-interference, peaceful co-existence, respect for human rights, and justice. These values belong, by right, inalienably, to ALL people – and include the rights, dignity, and security of the Palestinian people, and especially the most vulnerable amongst them – refugees and the victims of war and conflict.
He went on to deliver the message of the Secretary-General for the Day.
Other speakers included H.E. Dr. Saud Mohammed Al-Sati, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia and Head of the Arb Ambassadors’ Council and H.E. Mr. Adnan Abu Alhaijaa, Ambassador of the State of Palestine. Ambassador Shashank, former Foreign Secretary delivered the keynote address noting India’s long-standing commitment to the Palestinian cause and quoting from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on the Day.
